| We're the best football team in the land |
Former Liverpool manager and face scratcher extraordinaire, Roy Hodgson finally did something good for the club yesterday when he drew the balls to give Liverpool a kind looking home draw against Blackburn Rovers in the last 16 of the FA Cup. Although if you asked Woy he would most probably say that for Liverpool to beat a team like Blackburn would represent some kind of "Utopia".
Anyway enough about that eejit, Liverpool took another step on their mission of granting Stevie G one last hurrah before he goes Stateside at the end of the season with a fine victory over Alan Pardew's Crystal Palace. Palace have become a bit of a bogey team in recent years notably halting our progress by grabbing a draw in the run in to last season's end, and by inflicting a stinging defeat earlier in the season when things were at a particularly low ebb for Brendan Rogers men. Liverpool have improved drastically since then with only 2 defeats in the following 22 games, and 1 of those was outside 90 minutes versus high flying Chelsea in the league cup.
Liverpool dominated the game early and had 17 shots against the Londoners 3 in the first half alone, that we went in 1-0 down at half time might have affected November's Reds, but not the 2015 version. Liverpool attacked again from the off in the second half, the reinvigorated came in for Markovic and the side were rewarded after just 4 minutes when Hendo's fantastic pass found Sturridge who finished stylishly with a first time volley to level things up. Ballo's resurgence continued when he was trusted with a free kick which he made tell. He rocketed the shot, floored the keeper and Lallana skillfully finished to give the visitors the advantage we deserved.
"We are Liverpool" rang around the stadium again sounding like it was being sung by 10 times as many as the 3,800 travelling Kopites in Selhurst Park on the day. The team keeps getting stronger and the bond between players and fans is tightening all the time too, Sakho with a fantastic gesture of giving his jersey to a kid in the crowd (pictured above) after the game and then marching down the tunnel to chants of "Sakho, Sakho, Sahko!!!" ensured that.
The march continues for this young vibrant Liverpool team who will need to stay focussed to beat a decent looking Blackburn Rovers outfit but who should have enough to see themselves through.
It looks like we might have a few spares for this game so if you would like to go to see it please drop us a line by using the "Contact Us" link above and if we can help we will get back to you ASAP.
